good faith estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost

Under the No Surprises law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

• You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

• If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

• Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 368-1019.

FAQs

  • I am currently in network with Aetna, Centivo, and Optum (includes United Healthcare and UMR).

I accept insurance for individual therapy but not for couples/relationship therapy. Insurance only covers relationship therapy when one person is identified as the client and the work is geared towards their specific mental health concerns - this is not the way that I work. I focus on the relationship itself and do not diagnose any mental health disorders for couples/relationship therapy.

  • Many insurance plans offer partial reimbursement for out-of-network services. The process looks like this:

    1. Contact your insurance company to find out what percentage they will cover for outpatient therapy.

    2. Pay for your session.

    3. I will provide you with a special type of receipt called a “superbill,” which you will then submit to your insurance plan for partial reimbursement.

  • First, contact me in whatever way feels more comfortable - use the contact page of this website, send me an email, or call me (if phone calls are gross, send me a text!). I’ll get back to you within a day or two to set up a free 15-minute phone or video consultation so that we can briefly chat and make sure that we’re a good fit for each other. If we are, we’ll schedule your first appointment and then you’ll fill out some boring paperwork online. Then the magic begins!

  • Nope. Telehealth only, babyyyyy!

  • If you are using insurance benefits, I must use a mental health diagnosis in order to file claims with your plan. We will discuss this openly during our first few sessions — I will never use a diagnosis that we do not discuss first. Some folks choose to self-pay for sessions because they do not want a diagnosis as part of their medical record.
